Our workshops provide participants with learning opportunities on a variety of topics related to coping with cancer and improving quality of life. Unless otherwise noted, education programs are presented at The Wellness Community facility in Bethesda, MD.

How Cancer Develops & Treatment Strategies
July 19, 6 – 8 p.m. Dr. John Marshall, Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology and Director of Development Therapeutics & GI Oncology at Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center will make a presentation on how cancers occur and what new treatment strategies are available. Living Well with Cancer
August 9 , 6 – 8 p.m. Dr. Stephen P. Hersh, DLFAPA, will discuss living well with cancer while having sense of future, hope and engagement with life. A light dinner will be provided. RSVP required.
Aromatic Education Experience to Nurture & Empower You
August 23, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Bonita Shelby, Certified Clinical Aromatherapist and 20-year breast cancer survivor, will describe the historical uses of aromatherapy and how it has evolved into a complementary therapy that involves all senses. RSVP required.

Homeopathy for Cancer Patients
August 26, 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Dr. Michael Liss, Board Certified Naturopathic Doctor, will provide the basic history, theory and practice of homeopathy, with a special focus on immuno-support remedies for chronic/long-term care. RSVP required.
Frankly Speaking About Lung Cancer
September 13, 6 – 8 p.m. Dr. Imad Tabbara, Professor of Medicine Hematology/Oncology at George Washington University Hospital, will provide information on understanding lung cancer, making treatment decisions and managing symptoms and side effects. A light dinner will be provided. RSVP required.
Acupuncture: Complementary Therapy for Cancer Patients
September 18, 2 – 3 p.m. Dr. Gang Peng, Licensed Acupuncturist and Acupuncture Specialist for NIH, will present the basic principles of acupuncture and how it might provide symptom relief for cancer patients. RSVP required.
Guided Nutrition Tour of Whole Foods Bethesda
September 21, 1 – 2 p.m. Lynda McIntyre, RD, LD, Clinical Dietician Specialist, will lead a guided healthy nutrition fieldtrip through Whole Foods Bethesda. Learn which foods are beneficial both during and after cancer treatment. Samples of food will be available during the tour. This program is limited to 12 attendees. Register early!

September 27, 6 – 8 p.m. Dian Corneliussen-James, President of METAvivor Research & Support, Inc., will provide information on understanding advanced (metastatic) breast cancer, making treatment decisions, and managing symptoms and side effects. A light dinner will be provided. RSVP required.
