Mind/Body Classes
Sessions designed to teach techniques that provide skills to change the impact of stress in one's life are offered weekly. Most of these are drop in classes, but please RSVP when indicated. Comfortable clothing and physician approval recommended.
Weekly Classes:
Gentle Yoga
Mondays 10 - 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. led by Susan Murray Young.
Wednesdays 10 - 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., led by Kym Sevilla, RYT, AHFS
These classes combine stretching, breathing, and relaxation exercises to help improve muscle tone, aid in stress management, and promote a sense of well-being.
Energy Healing
Tuesdays, 10 - 11 a.m. (July only)
Afie Lattimer, Reiki Master, leads this class teaching how to use energy to feel better.
Walking Wednesdays Club
Wednesdays, 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.
Janet Cosby, walking enthusiast, co-leads this weekly walking group with Susan Joseph, Dragonboat Co-Captain. The 2-mile walk begins in front of the Barnes and Noble in Bethesda. Pink Ribbon Pilates
Wednesdays, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
Jill Studley, Certified Pilates Instructor leads this class for breast cancer survivors with the assistance of Ann Hallman. Healthy lifestyle and positive body image are part of the experience as participants are challenged to regain strength and mobility. RSVP required.
Visionary Healing Meditation
Fridays, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Joan Carr-Voigt, Christian Science Practitioner, leads this group to help participants become fully relaxed and at peace. This is a deep, quiet process that brings life, hope, and healing to those who experience it.
Bi-Monthly Classes:
Creative Writing Workshop
1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month, 5:30 - 7 p.m.
Kristine Crane, M.A., leads this class on learning expressive and creative writing techniques as a pathway to healing. No previous writing experience is necessary. RSVP required.
Dahn Yoga/Brain Education
1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month, 6 – 7 p.m.
Caroline Grabner, instructor of healing techniques at Dahn Yoga studio, leads this class that combines yoga, energy training, and brain education for stress reduction.
Healing Workshop
July 22, August 12 & 26, September 9 & 23, 4 - 5:30 p.m.
This series introduces various energy healing modalities such as breath work, chakra balancing, chanting, meditation, movement, and Reiki. Adam Miriam, Intuitive Energy Healer and Reiki Master, leads this class providing healing experience and tools participants can use on their own. Attendance at all classes in the series is not required.
Monthly Classes:
Healing Dimension
1st Monday of the month, 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.
The healing process is a vibrant movement, a life force within each of us, ready to be identified, witnessed and acknowledged. Melissa Crown, LCSW-C leads this class on exploring the emotional, physical and spiritual dimensions of healing, in community with others. Learn basic techniques of Guided Imagery and Journal Writing to ease the mind and body and energize the soul.
Reiki Share
2nd Thursday of the month, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Susan Kilborn and Duane McDevitt, Reiki Masters, provide participants with an understanding of the principles of Reiki and techniques for individuals to achieve healing effects through self-treatment. Teacher substitution support provided by Reiki Certified Instructor Marsha E. Bisker.
Special Classes:
Dahn Yoga/Brain Education Workshop Series
August 7: Brain Education for Successful Aging, 12 - 1:30 p.m.
September 25: Brain Wave Vibration, 12 - 1:30 p.m.
Brian Kim, Manager of Dahn Yoga Studio, will lead this series of sessions designed to improve the practitioner's health through development of the energy system and enhancement of the mind-body connection. Classes do not require any previous experience or previous class attendance and are open to all levels and abilities. RSVP required.
Mind/Body Connection: Neuroscience, Hypnotherapy, & Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
September 25, 10 - 11:30 a.m.
Lynne Shaner, MA, CHT, EFT Cert-1 and Director of Praxis: Wellness in Life + Work, will present the neuroscience of the mind/body connection and different approaches used, such as meditation, prayer/reflection, breathing, and a deep understanding of EFT and hypnosis. The presentation is followed by a demonstration. RSVP required.
